Keychain Issues in macOS
This article shows how to solve the keychain issues stemming from old cached data.
Steps
Option 1
If the keychain password is outdated and is unknown by the user and the tech:
- In Finder select Go > Go to folder… (⇧⌘G)
- In the window that appears, type the following: ~/Library/Keychains/
- Click OK
- Look for a folder with a name similar to: "A8F5E7B8-CEC1-4479-A7DF-F23CB076C8B8". Note: Each folder will have a unique number.
- Move this folder to the Trash.
- Immediately choose Apple Menu > Restart to restart the machine.
Option 2
If the user has forgotten his/her keychain password, follow the steps below to reset the password:
- Be sure the user is logged on to his/her own account.
- Open the Keychain Access.
- At the top of the page, select Keychain Access > Settings.
- Select Reset my default keychain.
- Have the user type in his/her current password.
Option 3
If the 'login' keychain is not automatically unlocking when the user logs in to the computer, try the following:
- Open Keychain Access

Two-Finger Click or Ctrl + Click on the 'login' keychain in the left column.
- Click 'Change Password for Keychain "login"
- Enter the old GCTS password that last worked on the computer.
- Enter the current GCTS password twice.
- If the change is successful, reboot to verify that functionality has been restored.
